I've heard about this, but never glimpsed it

  2. I was just musing on my flickr that I really should just learn my species names & identifying marks already. :) I was pretty close here--down the telephone pole and about 15 feet out. This is in my parents' neighborhood where this family has lived for the last 4-5 years. I harass them often enough with my camera (chasing them on foot and in the car all over the neighborhood) that they are largely unphased by me. In unguarded moments, I call them "my hawks" knowing full well they're not but feeling something like connected with them.

  3. Having just consulted my Peterson's, I can confidently say these are Harris's hawks...which, in truth, is as I suspected. Harris is fairly abundant around here.
