  1. So amazing. I have no natural ability in this area, but a great depth of appreciation as to its absolute suchness when it is right. This is right!

  3. Thanks x 2, but also...it goes like this.
I really didn't start "doing" art until I was an art teacher. Yeah, I know how backasswards that sentence looks. I always thought artists had some sort of mysticality and talent and just thought differently. Turns out the last part is the only true part. I follow whims and curiosities. I've taken almost no coursework, but I'm not afraid to fail (though it's taken 30+ years to land there). This doublet of paintings, for instance, well I used no brush. Instead, I pour & pull...I literally squirt the paint out (of perm solution bottles from the beauty store) and use a plastic spackle spreader to pull the paint in different directions until I'm happy with it. Just lately, I started rolling a layer of white (usually) over a dried layer of pulled paint to help create depth. Sometimes I glue down paper to help with that context/texture/layering. It's really just play, and I have a running inner dialogue where I question if I'm doing art or toddler-esque crafting.

I have come to understand that EVERYONE can do art...I promise. If ever we find ourselves in the same city, you should know I'm coming armed with odd bottles of paint and anything but a brush...cool?
